Music Technology coursework

KAT SZA BEAT;

Kat chose to create a song inspired by one of her favourite artists, SZA. She used a combination of EQ’d pad sounds with an arpeggiated pattern to a funk-inspired drum and bass sequence. Kat used various effects such as reverb and chorus to give the track a warped feeling, which was one of her favourite aspects of the reference song she used.

LUIS RAP BEAT;

Luis used the creation of this beat to explore different elements of making modern rap backing tracks, focusing on programming the rhythmic drum pattern and creating a crushed bass sound to keep the track driving forward. The melodic elements of the track are sampled from other songs that Luis admires, which is a common technique used in this style of music.

XANDER HORROR SOUNDTRACK;

Xander created a horror soundtrack for a game that he is currently developing, and will be further studying at college, known currently as ‘Elite Resistance’ – Xander used a combination of sequencing sound effects and instruments on the MIDI piano with sampling from various sources of videogame culture, including fan-made sound bytes.

LUKE VO MURDER DRONES;

Luke has undertaken a complete audio replacement of an episode from his favourite animated series Murder Drones. In this clip we can hear Luke’s overdubs of character voices, sound effects and ambient space. In the full episode, Luke explored the audio replacement technique of Foley, recreating sound effects such as footsteps, bangs and crashes using objects found around the school and inside the media studio as well as sampling from professional sound libraries.
